Fun, Festival & Competition
An action packed week, the Adaptive Snow Sports Festival gives people with a disability the chance to have fun with fellow skiers and boarders from around the country and overseas; improve skills, compete, explore new terrain and enjoy the après ski! We have changed the format a bit from previous years to include a wider focus on skill development and to broaden the range of events, including freeski elements. The Festival will continue to challenge all levels of skiers and riders. Bring your friends and family along. All are welcome to join in the fun. Events and Competition will include:
Ski and snowboard instruction
Clinics including Freeski Park & Pipe and Gravity Cross and Alpine Ski Racing
Guided mountain tours
Snow Farm Cross-country Skiing
Après Ski and evening events
Fun Festival Friday - Fancy Dress Day - prizes for the best & worst dressed
Competition – Social level and Elite level Alpine and Freeski races Wednesday-Friday.
Team Race - the final race for the week, a fun race open to everyone National Classification
Closing Awards Evening Elite Races Elite races will be run to a challenging standard. Entry is open to national team members, development athletes and advanced recreational skiers at the discretion of the event organisers. (Races are not IPC sanctioned).
Alpine Ski Racing: Giant Slalom, Slalom
Snowboarding: Snowboardcross Social Races Social Races are open to everyone attending with the exception of elite racers. Social races are held on green and blue level runs and assistance may be provided.
Alpine Giant Slalom and Alpine Slalom, Freeski Race.
Team: Dual Slalom, Fun Race
PLEASE NOTE The Disabled New Zealand National Championships will be held as part of the Alpine Ski Racing National Championships at Coronet Peak 30-31 August and Mt Hutt 6 September, and the Snowboard at Turoa 28 August. A development camp will be held for up and coming skiers / riders Friday, Saturday and Sunday prior to the Festival.
The Festival and Championships are heavily subsidised thanks to substantial support from Cardrona Alpine Resort and other local and national sponsors and organisations. • Note some activities will only run subject to funding and demand.
