The New Zealand Adaptive Snow Sports Team
New Zealand's disabled alpine ski racers have been competing with outstanding results on the international ski race circuit since 1980.
In 2008 the name was changed from the New Zealand Disabled Ski Team to The New Zealand Adaptive Snow Sports Team to reflect the inclusion of Adaptive Snowboarding as a high performance sport.
The New Zealand Adaptive Snow Sports Team
2008/09 season athletes are Disabled Alpine Ski Racers Adam Hall of Otago, and Peter Williams of Auckland, and Adaptive Snowboarder Carl Murphy.Adam Hall represented New Zealand at the 2006 Winter Paralympic Games in Torino, Italy. Adam is currently ranked second in the world at Slalom. He is training in the US and competing on the World Cup circuit and in preparation for the 2010 Winter Paralympic Games to be held in Vancouver, Canada. Adam is under the guidance of the Winter Performance Programme and coach Hiro Taniguch.
Adam and Peter are competing in the North American Cup Series (NorAm) and representing NZ in the World Cup series this Northern Hemisphere winter.
Carl is currently based in England, and training and competing in Alpine snowboard races in international events in the US and Canada, and in Europe.
Developing Athletes
DSNZ's High Performance Programme works with New Zealand's elite adaptive skiers to provide a pathway to join the NZ Adaptive Snow Sports Team and represent New Zealand at snowsport's pinnacle event, the Paralympic Winter Games.Currently there are no develop athletes competing internationally.
